Yokohama China Town
In 1859, Yokohama Port became one of the first ports to be opened to international trade after Japan's two centuries of isolation. The Chinatown was established soon afterwards, and remains Japan's largest today. Cup Noodles Museum
The Cup Noodles Museum is a fun and interactive museum in Yokohama's Minato Mirai District that shows the history of instant ramen noodles using a combination of whimsical exhibits and hands on workshops. It was opened by the Nissin Food company, whose founder invented instant ramen noodles in 1958 as a fast and convenient food. It is the second cup noodles museum to open in Japan; the first is the Momofuku Ando Instant Ramen Museum in Osaka. |
Yokohama Red Brick Warehouse
Formally the Customs Inspection House for Yokohama Bay's shipping activities in the early 1920's, these handsome red brick buildings have been converted into one of Yokohama's most popular family or date spots. Inside the building there are many unique shops and restaurants. Outside, throughout the year, numerous events take place. October Beer Fest in autumn, a skating rink in winter, and concerts during the summer. Situated right on the bay, the views are beautiful. Hakkejima Sea Paradise
Amusement park with aquarium and rides The Hakkeijima Sea Paradise is an amusement park located on a small island just off shore, about 30 minutes by car south of downtown Yokohama. It is one of the most visited amusement parks in Japan and houses quite an impressive aquarium. |
Sankei Garden
Sankeien is a spacious Japanese style garden in southern Yokohama which exhibits a number of historic buildings from across Japan. There is a pond, small rivers, flowers and wonderful scrolling trails that make you think you are in Kyoto rather than Yokohama. The vast traditional Japanese garden covering over 175,000 sqm. with historical buildings across Japan. During the autumn season, gingko and maple trees in the garden turn their colors into bright yellow and vibrant red. The area around Choshukaku tea house -built especially for viewing autumn leaves- is tinted with the deep red of maple leaves, creating a world where beautiful reds and golds can be enjoyed within the peaceful quiet of these carefully designed gardens. It contains the Cosmo Clock 21, formerly the tallest Ferris wheel in the world which has now become an iconic feature of the Yokohama skyline, Cosmo World is a compact but varied amusement park with enough entertainment for both kids and adults to spend an afternoon. |
